What is the Experience?

This getaway is 3 days of fun-filled, rustic adventure! Explore regional Victoria on this fly fishing and high country horseriding getaway. Wade through perfect rivers and let the horses show you around. Spend each day loving the fresh country air then each night under the gorgeous starry sky.

Come and experience the beauty of the Victorian high country on a two day horse riding and fly fishing adventure. We can tailor the tour to suit all levels of riding and fishing ability. The package includes a full day of fishing and one of riding, three nights accommodation and delicious meals.

The day starts after a hearty continental and hot breakfast. Your fly fishing guide will brief you on the days plan. This will be dependent on river levels, current hot spots on the river, weather, and your ability.

There are 3 good rivers, The Bundarrah, Cobungra and Mitta Mitta with access varying from very easy to quite challenging. We'll send you off with a picnic lunch and hope you return with a good fish that can be smoked, cured, baked or fried. Novice fishermen will receive instruction and supply of equipment.

Prior to the horse ride guides will match you to a horse and brief you on the days plan. Once mounted on your horse, the day of riding will take you through the beautiful Alpine National Park, alongside and through clear rivers, following bush tracks, up and over sprawling mountains and through open farm lands.

A picnic lunch of tasty, thick sandwiches, home made slice or cakes and fresh fruit is taken in somewhere scenic. Novice riders will be given instruction prior to and during the ride. Supplied are helmets, oilskin coats and riding chaps.

Your accommodation is either twin share, single or double, with linen and towels supplied. Large deck space of your completely rustic accommodation ensures that amazing views and a sparkling night sky can be enjoyed. Dinner may be osso bucco cooked in a camp oven, or perhaps a slab of roasted porterhouse. All served with bowls of fresh vegetables and a superb glass of King Valley red.

Venue:

30 minutes from Omeo at Anglers Rest, Victoria.

Session Length

This experience operates from early September until the end of May. The package includes three nights accommodation.

Guidelines:

Horses are available for all standards of riders. For the really experienced, we'll group you accordingly. Children under the age of 8 will be considered for short rides after discussion with us. There is a weight limit of 110kg for inexperienced riders.

Numbers:

The price quoted is for one person. Group sizes vary from one to twelve people. All rides are guided by suitably qualified staff. The number of guides will vary as to the general group ability, from one on one to one to three. Fly fishing groups are from one to three clients per guide.

Weather:

The itinerary may be changed on the day as a weather contingency, ensuring safety and comfort for all. If the experience needs to be postponed due to unsuitable weather you will be contacted and a later date will be rescheduled.

Other Info:

If you are an experienced rider and you wish to break away from the group, you will be able to do this at intervals during the ride. If you are riding with a friend who is less experienced, it may be possible to take them with you.

Suitability Information:

With prior notice, riders with a disability can horse ride. We have a few horses who have proven themselves with physically and mentally disabled people. Usually, there will be one guide per rider whether guide is on foot or horse.
