Horse Riding On The Bogong High Plains - 4 Days
Experience Code: PHC732Description
In the saddle, climbing upwards through changing levels of vegetation, you’ll experience horse riding under a seemingly endless sky across the grassy Bogong High Plains. A sea of mountains beckons before heading into camp for fine food under the clear starry skies.
You arrive at the high country property the day prior to your 4 day high country horse riding adventure. You can choose your horse and have a trial ride.
You'll enjoy dinner as we talk about the ride ahead, discussing things such as what you can carry with you on the ride and what goes in the 4WD backup vehicle.
A delicious continental breakfast is enjoyed on the deck of day one, whilst watching kangaroos across the river.
We'll pack lunch and find one of the many scenic spots to stop and rest after a few hours of riding.
A camp of dome tents, therma rests and a camp fire will await you. After unsaddling, washing down and feeding your horse, there's time for a splash in the creek or basin wash before sitting back and enjoying a beverage.
Dinner is under the stars (unless of course it's wet then it's under cover). Over the 4 days breakfast and dinner is cooked over a camp fire. Osso bucco simmering in a cast iron pot, silverside and mustard sauce, a boned leg of lamb or a bbq of mountain trout are on offer, depending on the weather.
There's an emphasis on quality, fresh food sourced locally from the King and Kiewa Valleys.
Each day of horse riding is different. There are open grassy plains to drift across, narrow tracks cut into the sides of mountains, fields of flowers and hidden waterfalls. On clear days you can see across the Alps and to the distant NSW ranges.
Much of the ride is at a walk due to the terrain, though there will be opportunities to trot and canter. Horses are forward moving and where the country opens up you can ride abreast. There's a good selection of different breeds and varying heights and temperaments. If you are an experienced rider and you wish to break away from the group, you will be able to do this at intervals during the ride.
