Your words will travel far, but you won’t have to for this class! It’s based in Sydney, so come and learn from an expert!
Do you love traveling? Want to combine that with writing? If so, travel writing is an option for you! Travel writing provides an opportunity for you to partially fund or, if you’re lucky, fully fund a trip away! So if you love to write and travel, come and join our class!
If you are a beginner in the field, our class will serve as a great introduction to travel writing. It will get you industry savvy and creatively inspired in no time! If you like the idea of writing travel features for print or online media, then this class will be of great help to you. This is also a great class to take if you have already done a bit of travel writing, as it will teach you more about publishing opportunities and about how to make contacts in the field.
Travel writing isn’t all about lying on the beach for two weeks and then spinning a yarn about your holiday. It’s about much, much more than that!
This class will cover:
- Publishing opportunities – newspapers, magazines, electronic media, travel literature, guidebooks
- Types of travel stories – service stories, destination stories, personal essays
- What it takes to be a travel writer
- Some straight talk about earnings
- Finding and focusing your story – subject, travel trends, developing your story
- The art and craft of travel stories
- Getting published and making contacts within the industry
- Writing for travel guidebooks
Your tutor is an established author and journalist who has worked as a freelance travel writer and photographer for the last six years. His work is published in major newspapers and magazines throughout the country.
Whether you travel to the colourful, bustling streets of India or to an isolated windy peak in Nepal, you will be able to write about your experience with ease. And, most importantly, you will know how to take the first steps towards getting your work published. Now, that’s getting somewhere!

The price quoted is for one person. Classes operate with a maximum of 16 people.

Session Length:
Classes are held several times a year, on selected weekday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.30pm. You will need to book in advance.
